It came as no surprise that the Thunder were handed consecutive loses. Still, it was an experience like no other at the game. I went, and I'm proud to say that the game at home, though one of the bigger blowouts of the year, had just as good an atmosphere as any of the NOK games. Though half of the arena wasn't cheering for teal like some people may have predicted, it was still a crowd that was respectful for the old days of David West clutch jumpers, Tyson Chandler ally-oops, and the oh-so-lovable Chris Paul. Even the beekeeper made a return appearance for the game.
What did come as a surprise though is the immediate uncalled for firing of head coach P.J. Carlesimo after the first game. Zorgon and I go into much further detail in our soon to be released podcast. In short though, it is my humble opinion that this firing was way too premature. I could totally see letting him go after the season or a month away from the finale if need be, but how can you justify firing a guy when the team hasn't even played it's 20th game yet? It's not as if he really could have won any more games. What a young team like this one needs is consistency, not a coaching carousel.
OK, since the games happened quite awhile ago, I'm going to fore go the analysis assuming that either you already know what happened or, if you don't know by now, you don't really care. So, for the award recipients of the two games:
(FRIDAY) Thunder Wonders: Nick Collison (16 points, 5-9 Shooting, 13 Rebounds) You know it was a Bizzaro night when Nick Collison wins Thunder Wonder. Regardless, I'm still unwaivered from my Start Chris Wilcox stance.
(FRIDAY) Thunder Down Under: Russell Westbrook (15 points, 5-14 Shooting, 5-6 Free Throws, 3 Rebounds, 3 Assists, 2 Steals, 4 Turnovers) Did well in almost every category tonight. The guy next to me said that, "Sometimes he reminds me of Chris Paul." Though I'm sure that was the beer talking, it could happen...now pass the Heiniken.
(FRIDAY) Thunder Blunder: Jeff Green (3 points, 0-6 shooting, 5 Rebounds, 2 Assists) I hate to do this to my boy Jeff, but it was kind of hard to deny. 0-6 from the floor never really helps your case for Thunder Wonder, thats for sure. I have full confidence that he'll rebound from this performance though.
(FRIDAY) Thunder Plunderer: David "Wild" West (19 Points, 6-11 Shooting, 7-7 Free Throws, 8 Rebounds, 4 Blocks) Seeing him put up those numbers was no reminiscent of the time the Hornets were here and I was there to witness West's "Buzzer Beater 1" against the Wizards. Now THAT, was classic. Not that any final shot was needed in this game. Still, it does remind me of another performance that is worthy of it's own special award tonight...

(FRIDAY) Thunder WTF: Kyle Weaver ("Game-Winning" (emphasis on the ""s) 3-pointer as time expired) by far the highlight of the Thunder for that night. Changed the point differential from 28 to 25!!! Also, his only points of the night.
(SATURDAY) Thunder Wonder: Kevin Durant (30 Points, 11-16 Shooting, 7-8 Free Throws, 4 Rebounds, 5 Turnovers) An excellent offensive game for the KD. Did hardly any extracurriculars, but lit up the scoreboard.
(SATURDAY) Thunder Down Under: Chris Wilcox (14 Points, 7-10 Shooting, 10 Rebounds, 2 Turnovers) Yeah! My other boy, Weezy, was finally able to get off the schnide and win another award. Next stop? Starting 5, perhaps???
(SATURDAY) Thunder Blunder: Earl Watson (6 Points, 2-5 Shooting, 4 assists) Considering he was one of only three guards to see floor time in this game, these stats are simply pitiful.
(SATURDAY) Thunder Plunderer: Christopher "Columbus" Paul "Bunyan" (29 Points, 11-17 Shooting, 16 Assists, 10 Rebounds, 3 Steals) Another triple-double given up by the Thunder. He totally humiliated Earl Watson on the floor.
