Hey, we only lost to the Mavs by 4 points at the American Airlines Center! That's an accomplishment in and of itslef. Now they must face the Spurs, the organization where Sam Presti got his start and the supposed model organization for the Thunder. This son of San Antonio still has a little to learn, though, and has little to work with. Whether or not we actually become the next Spurs is up in the air, but what I do know is I don't want to spend too much time coming up with a clever opening, so lets get the pregame underway.
Backstory: Was anyone surprised that the Thunder were the team that Dirk decided to drop the most points on in this season? The stars always seem to shine against the Thunder. Think Dwight Howard, Chris Paul, Steve Nash, and now Nowitzki. It's not just a Thunder thing really, these guys are stars for a reason. However, the way you counter the most gifted players in this league is with your own gifted players. Hey Thunder guys, raise your hand if you think you're a gifted player. Kevin, put your hand down. Sure, you may be something in the future, but as for now, you haven't really done anything to seperate you from the realm of Stephen Jackson.
Match-Ups:
Tony Parker vs. Russell Westbrook
Edge: Parker
I don't like Tony, he's a slasher, of which I don't usually care for. Also, he's successful and French and stupidly graces my NBA Live 09 cover. Still, he easily wins this one.
Manu Ginoblili vs. Damien Wilkins
Edge: Ginobili
I think we're going to notice a common trend of losing match-ups in this one. The Spurs struggled with his absence, but now he's back and the Spurs are rolling, so I guess it wasn't even worth bringing up
Bruce Bowen vs Kevin Durant
Edge: Durant
This match-up was intriguing, but I don't care how good of a defender Bruce is, KD will still score. Bruce will frustrate him though, no doubt.
Tim Duncan vs. Jeff Green
Edge: Duncan
I don't want to waste my breath
Fabricio Oberto vs. Nick Collison
Edge: Collison
Oberto is good at being a stiff, but the better player is definitely Collison
Battle of the Benches
Edge: Spurs
Not a major edge, but Roger Mason and Michael Finley are good enough, and the Thunder are short-handed
Coaching and Intangibles
Edge: Spurs
Scott Brooks is old enough to be Pop's son. And nobody wins at San Antonio. This one isn't close either.
Player to Watch: Tim Duncan. Sorry Thunder fans, but should be able to destroy the Thunder inside, who's going to stop him?
God of Thunder's Pick: Spurs 108 Thunder 92
