If I said I wasn't disappointed, I'd be lying. I'm just tired of letdowns. They always get your hopes way up and then just drop them. And you only think I'm talking about the Thunder. Man, what a kick in the face last night, eh Sooner fans. It wasn't half as bad as 55-19 like the last time they were in the title game. It wasn't as bad as Boise or West Virginia either. The thing was, this time we could have actually won. But, in a first half where we lost two touchdowns in the red zone and lost another one to Duke Robinson's bone head plays, and a second half that only added to the legend of Tim Tebow, it was hard to expect a win.
One team that came nowhere near winning was the Thunder, who recently got absolutely pasted by the...Timberwolves?!?!?!
Backstory:Yeah, let's talk about that very pasting. I knew I should have gone with my intuition that they wouldn't be able to continue their success. The box score really says it all. Kevin Durant and Jeff Green, arguably the teams two best players, combined to go 7-21 for 18 points. 3 of Durant's 9 points came from the free throw line. In contrast there were 6 Timberwolve players in double digits and both Al Jefferson and Kevin Love had double-doubles. Randy Foye himself had 32 points after shooting 10-16 from the field and 6-9 from three-point range. It was the biggest beatdown of the season, that's all there is to it.
Match-Ups:
Russell Westbrook vs. Rafer Alston
Edge: Alston
Everyone knows by now that he's "Skip-to-my-loo" the playground legend. I was a playground legend too, but not at basketball, freeze tag was my game.
Desmond Mason vs. Tracy McGrady
Edge: TMac
Desmond is about 20 points a game shy of Tracy's production.
Kevin Durant vs. Shane Battier
Edge: KD
Kevin and Tracy will probably spend most of their time guarding one another. Shane is a well rounded player who always helps out in some statistical category, even if it isn't in points. Still, no beatin' KD, unless he plays like he did last time.
Jeff Green vs. Luis Scola
Edge: Green
Eh, again, Green played terrible last time, but you must have faith that he can beat Luis Scola.
Robert Swift vs. Yao Ming
Edge:Yao
Nenad Krsitc premiered this last game, but apparently still isn't ready to start. It doesn't matter, almost no one could oust Yao.
Battle of the Benches
Edge: Rockets
Ron Artest and Aaron Brooks off the bench, 'nuff said.
Coaching and Intangibles
Edge: Rockets
Houston is coming off a recent win against the Celtics (though they are struggling) and Thunder coming off by far the worst loss of the season. Houston has the edge.
Player to Watch: Kevin Durant and Jeff Green. See if they can bounce back from the terrible outing and defend the home court that has served them so well the past few games.
God of Thunder's Pick: Rockets 102 Thunder 88
