The Shot.

Assistant coach Ron Adams was pretty camera shy, but he had the words of wisdom tonight. FSOK interviewed him after the game. He simply stated that the Thunder played the Kings game, and didn't focus enough on handling the ball or on defense. It's what I was preaching in the pre-game, and it's what should have happened. Sadly, nobody in Sacramento saw it tonight, as attendance was higher during my little league baseball games than it was during this game.
Most would say that the turnovers killed us tonight, but I'd put it into two other factors that are somewhat related to turnovers. First of all, we had no Desmond Mason. If we had him there to defend against Kevin Martin driving the lane every other play, the Thunders jobs would have been much, much easier. Instead, we either had Weaver, Westbrook, or Watson guarding him, and even though those 3 Ws should generally equate to a win on the depth chart (joke stolen from MartzMimic), none of them could step up to the plate defensively. Second of all, we seemed to be following Mike D'Antonis 7 second rule offensively. I hardly ever saw the shot clock go below 15 (or 17, for that matter), and we'd usually end up taking a bad jumpshot just to stay with the Kings pace. Sure, we had little spurts (like at the beginning of the third) where we started to play intense basketball, but for the most part, the undermanned Kings controlled the game.
Look, there's not much else to say but....the Mason loss really, really hurt. As you would expect, Russell Westbrook is the Thunder Wonder, Jeff Green is the Thunder Down Under, and Kevin Durant is the 3rd Star. Chucky Atkins gets the Thunder Blunder because he looks like Old Earl Watson Mark II without the assists, and Kevin Martin is the Thunder Plunderer. But all of that is meaningless. If the Thunder can't control the pace of the game, the only chance the Thunder will have to win a game this month is against the Grizzlies. And that's scary.
But, there was good news, as Jeff Green hit an amazing shot off of his own free throw miss to send it to overtime. Nothing's up on Youtube yet, but one it is, I can assure you it will be on the Slammin' Fernsehen to the right.
Next Game: Wednesday, February 4th vs. the Denver Nuggets
I'd like to say revenge, but all I can think of is, "Blowout".
