Oops!
The deal between the Oklahoma City Thunder and the New Orleans Hornets which featured Tyson Chandler, Joe Smith, Chris Wilcox, and DeVon Hardin had just been voided due to Tyson Chandlers Turf Toe Injury.
Honestly, it's hard to know what to think. On a personal level, I'm psyched, because Joe Smith is coming back. But on a team and strategic level, I'm not that excited. Now we've got a Wilcox who is really unwilling and shunned by his team mates, and a Joe Smith who has the same skillset as Nenad Krstic (at least at this point in his career). We've got the right lineup, but it's hard thinking about what could have been. This will hurt PR-wise more than anything, since, according to what I'm reading, HE voided the deal because of Tysons injury. He could have done it for 3 reasons:
1. He was really concerned about Tyson Chandlers health in the future.
2. He wanted to pull back from the trade and make another because he knew that Chandler wouln't pass the physical and the trade would be voided anyway.
3. He didn't want to make the trade.
Whatever the reason, this is going to cause some serious backlash.
Oklahoma City is no stranger to tradebacks, as the Oklahoma City era Hornets had attempted to trade J.R. Smith for Brent Barry with the Spurs after the deadline and had attempted to trade for an unhealthy Steven Hunter with the 76ers. Both were pulled back, but both were also much more small time than what we are talking here, and both of them were negated by technicalities, not one team pulling out.
More will be explained as this news progresses.
