Quarter by Quarter observations
First Quarter
Krstic still appears to be having trouble finding the range, and Westbrook got lucky while trying to force it to him down low. Krstic is also getting eaten alive by Bynum down low.
Thabo is playing some good defense on Kobe, but Kobe is Kobe so he is still making some ridiculous shots. Bryant is guarding Thabo down on the offensive side too which I didn't really expect.
Artest is doing a good job challenging on KD's shots so far.
Green is on Bryant right now playing good defense gets the challenge and forces the miss.
KD is struggling again so far.
Green hits a three after the Sefolosha steal. That's the sweet shot we were missing. I am surprised the Lakers didn't challenge the shot, I know Green has struggled the past couple of games but he did hit over .400 last year from three.
Ollie can not get out to challenge Fishers three and its good and on the other end no one challenges Greens three and its good.
Krstic is getting eaten alive in the post and can't seem to get it going on the offensive side.
Krstic misses another shot, another airball maybe he needs a night off to get his head sorted or something. I know everyone wants to play their way through whatever issue is plaguing their game but sometimes it is better to take a step back and take some time off.
KD hits from the elbow that was one of the first shots he really appeared to have his stroke back. Hopefully this will be the trigger that gets him back on track.
Green loses Odom and Kobe finds him under the basket for the easy bucket, just a terrible lapse in defense by Green.
Green blows by Artest but loses the handle and can't finish. It is good to see Green has the speed to blow by Artest I hope to see more of him down in the low post.
KD pulls the mason on Artest makes both free throws.
Sefolosha with another almost steal, Sefolosha and KD are being really active in the passing lanes resulting in a lot of steals and deflections.
Green lighting it up from three still no challenge.
Ollie with the pull up jumper as the shot clock gets low nice shot but the offense really stagnated there was almost no movement, it almost appeared to be an isolation for Ollie which I can't tell you how much I loathe the thought of.
Score to end the Quarter 32-25 Lakers
Second Quarter
KD with the deflection, Harden picks up the loose ball, drives down the lane and misses the lay in. KD swoops in and grabs the rebound and jams it home.
Ollie with the miss but gets the steal on a careless pass feeds it ahead to Harden who misses the lay in but again KD finishes.
Green is now on Artest so far I think he has defended every Laker but Derek Fisher, and he has done it well.
Bynum gets down low and makes the bucket. He is just a beast down low and has a really good touch.
Green is playing much better defensively I think that is the area he has improved the most so far this season.
KD pulls the Mason on Brown, makes both free throws to give the Thunder a 1 point lead.
Dear Westbrook, you can't try a no look behind the back pass to a trailer, that may or may not be there, when you are leading the defending champs by 1 at home. You have to make a smart play and take care of the ball.
The Thunder are still trying to get Krstic going and it just cost Westbrook another turnover.
Good intensity late Thomas with the huge block to keep it at one.
Score to finish the half 51-52 Lakers
Half
The Thunder are playing much better as the game goes on. Krstic is still struggling and Westbrook has made a few mistakes in the interest of trying to get him going. Thabo, Green, Thomas, and KD are all playing great defense in particular Thabo he is really getting inside Kobe's head, 3 million a year is a bargin for such a great defensive player. Down one but really if the Thunder continue to play this well or can get Krstic going they will definitely have a chance to win this one.
Third Quarter
The Thunder open up the half with Krstic hitting his first shot in about two games. I do not know what he changed but it looks like he found his shot which is good because this game is there for the taking and if Krstic can provide so offense that will help. Second trip down the floor and they go right back to Krstic and he pays it off again.
Krstic misses, for the first time this half he is now 3-4, but Sefolosha gets the offensive board and puts it in.
Krstic playing much better low post defense against Bynum, he is really working to deny Bynum his spot on the floor and staying with him to challenge the shot, unfortunately he got a piece of him and sent him to the line. It is encouraging to see him come out the second half a completely different player. I wonder how much playing and practicing against Etan Thomas will help Krstic on the defensive end.
The Thunder starters are keeping up with the Lakers starters, but the area I think the Thunder should really be able to take advantage is when the Lakers bench comes in. The Thunder need to extend this lead so Kobe can't come in and just take over later.
Kobe just tied the game, but here comes the Lakers bench in the form of Shannon Brown. This is it lets see if the Thunder can extend here in the next 5-6 minutes.
And almost immediately OKC takes the lead on a Harden three.
Score to finish the Quarter 73-71 OKC
Fourth Quarter
Going back and forth to end the third, we need to get some defensive stops.
Ollie hits a big shot to go back up by 2.
They are really playing all out but just can not seem to get the shots to fall and stops on the defensive end. The Lakers bench did a good job of preventing the Thunder from extending the lead. The Thunder are only up 3 and the starters are getting back in.
Late turnovers are going to cost us this game.
Sefolosha hits a big three from the corner, cutting the laker lead to two then gets a huge deflection to force a bad shot.
Sefolosha scores again to tie the game.
Kobe hits the fall away to put the Lakers at 90 up by two.
Green ties it up at 90, he setup at the three point line pump faked Odom into jumping past and stepped in to drill the long duece.
Kobe on Sefolosha to finish and Sefolosha stymies him and forces the shot clock violation.
25.9 left and the Thunder have the ball. Westbrook takes the inbound and dribbles out high, looks like they are going to isolate him on Fisher that's a good matchup Westbrook should be able to drive the lane and lay it in or kick it out to Green, Durant, or even Thabo if they collapse on him. Instead Westbrook passes to KD with about 8 seconds left. KD starts to bring it up, Artest is really playing tough defense, and shoots from way out and doesn't catch anything. Lakers ball with 3 left.
Score to finish the Quarter 90-90
Overtime
Westbrook attacking the glass and draws the foul against Odom, that was the play I really was looking for to end the game.
Westbrook, Durant, Green, Sefolosha, and Thomas the five for the Thunder. I wonder if Krstic is still recovering from the Euro Tournament, I wonder if it had anything to do with Gasol's injury?
Two chances to take the lead and neither shot will go down, the defense is giving you multiple chances to win this game let's make one count.
This is probably you last chance unless you miss early and Odom misses two again, I think your best play is to get it to Green or Sefolosha for three.
Well a nice play that just didn't go down, they got it to a wide open Sefolosha but it was just barely off. No one thought this would be a win for OKC but to show up and play like this against the champs is encouraging.
The Good and The Bad individually
The Good
Thabo Sefolosha
How could the Bulls not want this guy? He just played one of the best games defensively I have ever seen against arguably the best scorer in the league. He is showing off a nice three point shot, always cutting to the basket, doesn't seem to get upset about not getting the ball on offense. Tonight he was the team MVP.
Nenad Krstic's second half
Krstic came out and hit three of his first four and provided some offensive pop when the Thunder needed it. He also played much better low post defense in the second half.
Etan Thomas
Another great defensive effort, and coupled with some clutch rebounds. 9 points 11 rebounds and 3 blocks is a decent line but since he played 35 minutes not exceptional.
Jeff Green
Found his stroke from three again, went 3-5 and had some sweet shots fall. Hit the clutch shot to force overtime after the Thunder had missed shots on back to back possessions.
The Bad
Nenad Krstic's first half, he went 0-4 and just got abused down low by Bynum. His defense is probably the main reason why he didn't get more play in the second half.
KD from three 0-8 from three he did shoot much better tonight and was focused on defense but 0-8 is very unlike KD.
