Quarter by Quarter observations
First Quarter
15 seconds in and Durant has a steal and dunk.
Green gets the block on Thompson down in the post.
Green takes Thompson down into the low post and uses his athleticism to get a nice look for Westbrook.
Sefolosha has two turnovers already he is trying to drive and kick but it just isn't there, he needs to pull up and drain a couple first before that opens up.
Thabo again with the drive and kick results in another turn over. He is struggling already, trying to do something with the ball.
Westbrook with a nice three, his improved shooting the past couple of games has been a breath of fresh air.
Westbrook with the good decision, he ran the side pick and roll with Krstic and when the Kings chose to deny Krstic the ball Westbrook pulled up and shot the jumper, makes the first and Jeff Green knocks the second off Hawes to maintain possession
Krstic is struggling to find the distance. He is shooting from the side of the basket instead of in front of the basket. Just a thought he appears to miss more from the sides than from in front.
Green makes a great play down low fighting for the rebound and gets the basket.
Thabo is on Evans and he is doing a great job denying him the ball, almost gets the steal but forces the bad shot to beat the shot clock.
Westbrook cuts into the lane and gets to the basket, he just makes it look easy.
Jeff Green is just abusing whoever the Kings put down low.
Harden, Collison, Ollie, Sefolosha, and Thomas are on the court and it looks like they are having issues find shots.
Harden makes a great three off the work of Thabo, Thabo got the ball down low worked it in and passed it to a waiting Harden at the top of the key.
Score to end the Quarter 26-24 Thunder
Second Quarter
Harden takes the charge from Evans. The first time these two teams met Harden was pulled from the game after only 13 minutes most likely because of his defense. So far this game he is pulling his weight defensively, he has a block and is playing pretty good defense.
Harden again for three off the nice pass from KD, if Harden can get going from three that will go a long way toward picking up the slack from Krstic's struggles and Durant's struggles too.
The Thunder need to pick up the defensive intensity, they have lost a bit of the energy they were playing with to start. Sacramento is getting open under the basket as they make baseline cuts. I think there is a hole there where the perimeter defender is handing them off to the inside defender before the inside defender is ready.
KD is not shooting well tonight so far he is 1-7. Harden passes up the open three, gets the ball right back and can't get the shot off before the shot clock expires. Your stroke has looked good so far tonight Harden take the shot.
The Thunder are getting away from the play that got them the lead in the first quarter, they need to get the ball back to Jeff Green down low and let him play against the Kings front court that he was dominating earlier.
The Thunder are not playing as a team right now. There is confusion on who is going to inbound the ball, the defense looks lazy, and the offense is not moving. It has been a long minute couple of minutes since the Thunder have made a shot. Meanwhile the Kings have scored on three straight possessions and extended the lead to ten.
Good ball movement results in the open three from Green. The Thunder are getting the ball back to the hot hand, Green, he is headed to the line again off the foul as he drove the lane.
Krstic is again struggling.
Thompson keeps getting wide open under the basket that time Durant was just standing there but wasn't trying to deny the ball to Thompson.
Krstic gets the easy bucket down low. Hopefully this gets him going.
Harden picked a heck of a game to pick up the scoring intensity. With that half court heave he is 3-4 from three.
Score to finish the half 51-54 Kings
Half
Durant is 3-11 and Krstic is 1-6 and the Thunder are only down 3. Part of that has been James Harden's 3 three pointers, and part has been Jeff Green's 4-5. So far the Thunder really have not played all that well defensively. Sacramento is shooting nearly 60% from the field, they are shooting even better if you take out the 0-7 they are from three. If the Thunder can ratchet up the defense and force a few more bad shots from the Kings they should be able to take control of this one and get the win, if they continue to allow the Kings open shots under the bucket then this one could go down to the wire.
Third Quarter
Poor ball security from the Thunder, Westbrook gets the ball and is taking it up the court but Thompson is following him up the court and gets the steal. Someone needs to tell him he has a trailer cause he had no idea. Then KD is stripped.
Nothing is falling right now again for the Thunder as once again they have gotten away from what has been working. So far in the quarter we have KD with an 18ft jumper, Westbrook with a 20ft jumper, Sefolosha with a 19ft jumper all three misses. No Jeff Green down in the low post where he is 4-5 for the game, and again another long jumper this time from Sefolosha, which is a shame because Green had Nocioni down low. The Thunder are not going to win with long jump shots tonight.
KD gets into the lane and scores while getting fouled.
Green finally gets a touch and gets to the rack but misses the dunk. While he missed the shot he still got to the rack and got a high percentage shot with minimal effort. The Thunder need to go back to that it is just easy points.
Two steals and two easy finishes and the Thunder cut the lead to two.
Krstic is starting to get going down low gets the bucket and one.
KD is starting to take control of this game, he gets into the lane and gets fouled by Thompson. The sooner the Thunder can get Thompson in foul trouble the better.
KD again to the line puts a fourth foul on Evans and makes the free throws.
Score to finish the Quarter 83-77 Kings
Fourth Quarter
Bad defensive effort and bad offensive decisions is not going to win many games, but that is what we have so far in the quarter.
This is some really bad movement without the ball on the offensive end. When the Thunder offense is reduced to Harden and Westbrook in isolation situations with Thomas and Collison clogging the lane that is not a receipe for success.
Seven minutes left the Thunder are down four, Westbrook, Thabo, KD, Green, and Thomas are in can the Thunder make up the difference and get the win.
The Kings are starting to get into foul trouble Evans has five, Thompson and Udrih have four. If KD keeps driving the ball they will start fouling out or giving up the easy baskets both options are good for the Thunder.
Green draws another foul down low, this time on Hawes giving him four for the game. Misses the first free throw but makes the second, got to make those free throws Jeff.
Krstic back in so the starting five for the Thunder are in.
Jeff Green just can not get the shot to fall, they might want to go back to KD driving the ball hopefully pick up the bucket and foul.
The Thunder are getting killed on the glass that has kept the Kings in this game.
Jeff Green with the steal and the finish to cut the lead to four. 50 seconds remaining Sacramento has the ball.
Sacramento comes up with the steal and finish to push the lead to six.
Score to finish the Game 101-98 Kings
The Good and The Bad individually
The Good
Kevin Durant
18-18 from the line and three steals, KD had a total of 37 points and did what he could to get the Thunder the win but in the end it just wasn't enough to overcome a poor defensive effort and poor shooting by Westbrook and Sefolosha.
Jeff Green
He did well down low and was one of the constant options on offense that was working. .
The Bad
Where to begin; the terrible defensive effort, the terrible job rebounding, the terrible shooting by Westbrook and Sefolosha? KD to a large degree gets a pass on his subpar shooting since he was coming through in the clutch. Greens defense also gets a pass due to the fact that with all the switches frequently he was not the defender on Thompson while he was tearing us up. All in all just an embarrassing loss made possible by a lack of effort... enjoy the Orlando win.
