Oklahoma City Thunder
vs
Dallas Mavericks
Quarter by Quarter observations
First Quarter
The Thunder just shot 25%. I know offense isn't our strong suit but 25%? 1-4 from Westbrook who is getting the hell hacked out of him. 0-4 from Krstic who isn't getting the hell hacked out of him and in fact has had several wide open jumpers that just haven't gone down. KD is 4-10 but he needs some help if the Thunder is going to pull this one out.
Score to end the Quarter 26-16 Mavs
Second Quarter
Ahhh much better, after putting up a putrid 25% in the first quarter the Thunder bounced back with a blistering 71% 17-24. Leading the way Westbrook, Collison, and Harden. Westbrook knocked down 4-5 and added 4 assists. Collison was wide open under the basket once the Mavs started to collapse on Westbrook's drives. Harden went 4-4 for the quarter including 2 from beyond the arc. The key was to get out and run Westbrook was making good decisions and when he pushed the pace the Thunder got good shots and made up the points. It took me a minute to realize it but we scored 40 in the second quarter.
Score to finish the half 56-54 Thunder
Third Quarter
The Thunder came out and set the tone with defense early and often. They held the Mavericks to 11 points for the quarter. The Thunder cooled off from their 71% shooting clip but still maintained a decent percent and built up a big lead. KD went 1-6 in the quarter and right now he is sitting on 20 points on 20 shots. Unless he really breaks out in the fourth the quest for the scoring title will continue at least another night but its looking like the streak will probably live on.
Score to finish the Quarter 80-65 Thunder
Fourth Quarter
Well after I managed to almost jinx KD he made it to 25 after all. The Thunder seemed to forget until the last two possessions but eventually KD got his 25. 25 points on 28 shots is not good, I think we can know kind of develop a profile for the type of defender KD struggles against. Marion has held KD to three poor shooting performances two in OKC and one in Dallas. Westbrook, Green, and Harden really showed up tonight offensively. Westbrook had 1.5 pps, Green had 1.3 pps, and Harden 2.4 pps. Those are awesome numbers for a team looking for a second option.
Score to finish the Game 99-86 Thunder
The Good and The Bad
The Good
Russell Westbrook
During the second and third quarters Westbrook was making good decisions and setting up teammates for easy shots. Just like last year might have been the last one without KD this year might have been one of the last without Westbrook. .
Jeff Green
Green gets here mostly for his defense. Down the stretch while the Mavericks were trying to get back into the game Green was right there making Nowitzki work for every point. He also was very efficient on offense going for 17 points on 13 shots. Green even managed to grab 6 rebounds, an assist, 2 steals, and 2 blocks despite an injured wrist on his non-shooting hand.
The Bad
The Thunder had 10 blocks in the game guess how many Ibaka had...... 0 that's terrible. I can't believe you Serge. That was all sarcastic in case you missed it. Krstic had a rough night his jumper was half way down several times but in the end he went 2-8.
